Pigs on the Move

We've finally managed to get the moveable pen and housing all built, setup and we've done our first overnight stay (ie no more morning and night running of the pigs!)

Move number 1 on Sunday - the pen went from straight up the paddock (basically where the chooks are standing) to running down the paddock towards the back. That move, including their house, took a while to effect as we had to move panels up and shorten them into the end where the house was, then build off to the left of picture, then move the house, close up the gaps and so on.

All achieved with them insitu! YES.

(The ducks have now figured out the various mazes and are happily ignoring the pens.)

So last night, they stayed in their new, smaller pen with their new, moveable house and seemed to cope pretty well - which is good as it was chilly last night - not absolutely freezing mind you - but cold enough.

Today we extended their current pen to maximum size!

And there was happy wagging tails all round.

Next move will be to start the shuffle along the paddock - moving the house end in, extending the other end out and snaking along the paddock until we turn around to head in another direction. So far the straight line run is a doddle - turning corners is a bit harder, but we're still talking considerably less than the hours it was taking with the manual stake / tin method.
