Buy your bloke a welder

When I was a kid I'd often wonder at Mum's propensity to buy Dad new tools for Christmas - he got pipe benders, welding kits, great boxes full of hand tools, band saws, all sorts of things... and I always used to wonder why (mind you - he got even a bit the year Mum got a floor polisher....) but it actually makes some sense now.

Buy a bloke a welder and he'll build new chook houses (aka the local Jail!)

Given the blowout in poultry numbers now that we've decided we can start breeding and deal with the excess (don't ask I'm not thinking about it)....

This area is in front of the existing turkey, duck and pig sheds, and is basically used as a bit of a storage zone, although we recently dismantled the duck shed that was in the main chook run and moved it out here to house one batch of chicks (it's now moved again over near the entrance to the main vegetable garden....) but here we're going to start the great Jail build.

First up - panels for "cells" were welded together.  Each side is a separate piece which is bloody lucky because they weighed a bit and had to be dragged (carried) across the yard from the workshed to the construction zone.

They've all been put into place now - currently held together with cable ties of all things.  From here we started on the tedious bit of wiring up the runs.

Once we get each of the run's wired and finished off we'll put some temporary housing into place but the idea is that we're going to go with high-rise apartments next up.  Stand by for the Christmas Holidays!
