Few Tasks in between Day Jobs

Himself is about to start a new job (tomorrow now!) so we had a bit of a break in between to get some big jobs done. We started a few, finished one, and have got the other two well on the way... now if I can just work out a way of getting the Alpaca sheds started.... ;)

The job we did get finished which was a huge win was getting the final two pig sheds converted into poultry yards - adding a secure yard to the front of these sheds means we've got safe day accommodation in the event that we're away and/or have somebody or something that needs confining:

The house above is already in use by one of the flocks of ducks (the group that has the drake that bothers the Saxony's badly and now, coincidentally that the Geese absolutely hate) - so now they have a yard and more room!

The yard / house on the right hasn't been available at all - not having a door on the house, being used to store wire and other fencing materials in and no yard - but now it's all set up and ear-marked for use while I work out if Archie the rooster and Mini-Me are going to continue to get on, or need to be separated (it's also handy as a confinement yard at the moment in the event of any dodgy health issues!) YEAH needless to say - this is something we've wanted to do since we moved in.

Onto a more personal hope - the spa hasn't been used since we moved in (and we suspect for quite a while before that):

This is turning into "one of those marathons" - to start off with one of the larger hoses underneath had a very big hole in it - fixed that. Found more leaks in the valves between the spa and the heater - waiting for replacement parts on that, suspect there's another hose eaten through under the spa (which is under the deck and bloody hard to get at), and then it turned out that the timer on the heater was cactus - parts ordered for that... and then the filter's a non-standard size nowadays because the unit is so old.... and so the saga goes on. The good thing is that it is showing signs of working - once we iron out all of the problems. And it's "plumbing" which himself hates doing so there's been a fair bit of muttering going on

Finally - the other project that is now well on its way is the COOLROOM!!! Yeah

We ended up abandoning the original idea of a sand pan to install it on, toyed briefly with a concrete pad and opted in the end for stumps because of the amount of water that gushed through this area at the last rain event... turned out that digging the holes for the stumps was about the hardest part of the whole job.

Now the "buildings" installed (with help from Paul next door - otherwise I suspect we'd still be trying to haul the roof into position!). Next up is a concrete pad for the refrigeration unit, an electrician and then a refrigeration somebody or other to gass the whatsit. Then shelving - all hopefully in time to store this year's pumpkin harvest!

Not a bad effort for a final week of his enforced break's sudden burst of activity (as per usual, no idea what happened to the first 4 weeks - the time passed in a blur).

He's back to work next week, I'm back to work next week... looking for the aforementioned electrician and trying to find out where the plumber with the parts of the spa is hiding!
