It's been a little while since the announcement of the Sponsorship of work on dp3 and so it's probably time for a general status update.
You can follow the developments in more depth via the commits list (for the technical) at: http://lists.sakienvirotech.com/pipermail/dpcommits/ and you can also watch the updates to the project at http://devsite.dotproject.net
But in general terms there's been a lot of work undertaken on module conversion and some of the basic structural elements that will be required for dp3.
There has been a considerable amount of work undertaken on the consistency between modules - to clean up all the list iterations / searching / paging and other inconsistencies that have built up over all the years of development.
Testing of a completely new approach to ACL's is underway with speed and flexibility being the major undertakings.
Out of this a lot of elements are starting to fall - like cleaning up of the User Interface; more automated layouts; (obviously) more Web2 type elements like Ajax / more browser based processing; easier module API; easier customisation of layout / look and feel by the users; and so on.
So far we're really pleased with progress on dp3.
On the dp2 front another bug fix release is imminent - formalised test runs should recommence next week.
