Climate change and feeling helpless

I'm in Melbourne at AussieCon 4. My wife is in western Victoria, with heavy rains cutting roads between us. She is currently trying to channel water out of the chook yard. Even if I dropped everything and went home to help there is currently no way to get there. So I wait to hear the news. Suddenly the talks on climate change here have taken on a stark and visceral reality.

I know that KC has good neighbours around her at the moment and that she is at least on relatively high ground, so there is no immediate danger (except maybe to the poultry), so I'm trying not to worry unduly, but from this distance that is difficult. KC, I'm thinking of you, every moment between calls. Nothing I'm doing here is in any way more important than you and your safety.

The best laid plans ....

I’ve managed to cut off some of the flow into the chook yard and get some drainage out the other side so it’s still a part bog / part lake - but not quite as bad as it was.

But the wind has come up now and they are talking possible destructive - but you wouldn’t bloody credit it - I’m up to my ankles in water and the bloody sun’s just come out!

Weather bureau is talking possible thunderstorms - wouldn’t be surprised it’s 15 degrees outside and with that sun out - sheesh.

That big redgum in the soak - is now in the middle of a large fast running stream! I’ve got some photos - should have taken the video camera though - might try and get down there after a shower and a coffee.
