This is the second book featuring Bob Howard, the hacker turned demon hunter, following on from THE ATROCITY ARCHIVES. Bob this time has to deal with the deadly seductress and Black Chamber assassin, Ramona. The dealing is complicated by having to team up with Ramona against the multi-billionaire Ellis Billington, who appears to have a Soviet Cold War device designed to talk with the dead.

Billington has plans to raise what could be the ultimate weapon, if he can get it safely from the realms controlled by an ancient and powerful race. The Laundry can't afford Billington to annoy the ancients, nor can they afford Billington, or worse, the Black Chamber from getting hold of the secrets buried in the sea bed. Bob has his work cut out for him though as he and Ramona are given a psychic connection that ties them closer than is healthy, for either of them.

In his usual style, Charles Stross writes up a storm of action and humour that is hard to put down. THE JENNIFER MORGUE has a number of twists with an irony that is delicious, if somewhat vindictive. If you happen to be in the computer industry, or are a Bond fan, the in-jokes are just great fun. All in all a wonderful followup to THE ATROCITY ARCHIVES.
