My worst fears were realised, the British Museum on our first day in London. It's enormous; taking up one whole city block. And it's a treasure trove. We did a tour of ancient Greece which culminated at the Elgin Marbles (the guide was most discreet when asked about the controversy over their return to Greece). Andy was just starting at this point and went on to Early Medieval European history. Including the greatest English treasure recovered from the Sutton Ho (730AD). Cooking pots, weapons, everyday items, exquisite enamelled jewellery and a collection of 37 tiny gold coins, half the diameter of a one cent piece.
These two photos show the centrecourt of the museum. The various galleries surround this central court.
On our second day we did a walking tour of Little Venice that took in the Regent's Canal and the Grand Union Canal. After the tour we took a cruise in a narrow boat to Cambden lock. The canals are lined with boats that are effectively house boats. Which must prove somewhat of a challenge since it is only possible to moor for 15 days at a time.
