Chook Tractors and Apples

We've now set up all the chook tractors - including the Deluxe one which contains the Kingswood Country Girls now (Thelma, Greta, Meryl and Teddles - okay so the last one is a stretch). But these chooks are impossible to restrain any other way - we've tried clipping wings, not letting them out until late in the afternoon and all sorts of other things - and we used to spend all day every day chasing them out of the salad gardens....

These tractors are great - we can wheel them to wherever we want the little flock to be - works great of a night after they've gone to sleep. And no more breakouts and no worries about rooster wars.

Strange bedfellows these days - the pairing of Sophia and Charles have moved back into the pen containing the Turkeys - I've got to try and get a photo of them altogether, but during the day they keep their various distances:

Imagine two little white chooks - about ankle height, and 3 very big turkeys - not that far off hip height and you've got a rough idea.

The turkeys love free ranging around (and this also gives me a quick opportunity to show some very healthy fruit trees - we've had an astounding apple and pear crop this year - bodes well for cider makers!)

Finally - after the Blue Moon last night (which is still pretty prominent tonight), the ducks didn't get much sleep so they spent most of the day dozing around the bath:
