Single Use is Not an Option

One of the things that we figured out a long time ago is that single use items aren't much chop. It's particularly applicable now that we're in such a small house. It feels rather strange having been whinging about the heat not so long ago, but heating the house in winter is something we've recently turned our minds to. One end of the place had a wood heater in it:

But it was one of those stupid single use - heating only ones. Not even a hot plate on top, just a big block of heater only - heating only one end of the house into the bargain.

So it's gone:

And we've replaced it with something infinitely more practical for the small space - this has the firebox on top (with a usable cooking top into the bargain), and an oven at the bottom. Smaller footprint, useful for more than just heating.

All we need to do now is install one of those gizmos in the roof that pull hot air from one place to another - to heat the far end of the house and we've got a much more practical, smaller footprint, useful heating / cooking and comfort solution.
