Damp but not drowned

In Queensland things are dire. And we don't want to take away from that. Yet the same weather system hammering the north is having its effects down south as well.

The chook yard is looking a little sorry at the moment, and while I didn't get any shots of the chooks themselves, they weren't happy. And this was after we dug channels to try and sluice the water away.

Down by the side of the machinery shed you can see the flow spreading out into the back paddock. Quite a bit of water heading down that way.

Even the alpacas, not known for their love of enclosed spaces, were only too keen to take advantage of the comforts of the machinery shed, hastily prepared.

All of this rain has meant that the dam down the front of the property was overflowing into the gutters on the roadside. The short video below probably gives a better idea of the flow.

To give some perspective, at this time of the year it should be high summer. In fact this was the dam that two years ago I was rescuing a fish from the muddy residue left after it had almost completely evaporated.
